Uncovered gutters need to be cleaned everyday! Yes everyday… at least before it rains and sometimes while it’s raining.
Why is this you might say?! Trees don’t shed leaves and seeds just during the fall. They are shedding all year long. It is true that here in Northwest Ohio most trees shed their leaves during the fall… but some oak trees will hold their leaves throughout the winter shedding all the while. Pine trees are a gutters worst enemy; they shed all year long and will clog an uncovered gutter in no time at all…and Maple trees shed “helicopters”, “maple seeds”, or “propellers” during the spring.The point we are trying to make is that in order to keep your gutters flowing and not overflowing, you need to have some type of gutter guard cover installed to keep the leaves out of your gutters. It takes only one leaf to cover the hole leading to your downspout and cause your gutters to overflow. You could clean out all of your gutters today and tonight while your in bed, a couple of leaves fall in the gutter… just before you wake up a rain storm rolls through and your gutters are running over because a couple of leaves plugged off the hole to the downspout.
